Dragon Isle

By Brad Seelen

For months an impenetrable darkness has surrounded a large portion of the world Mongolash. With countless victims succumbing to the darkness, many have gone insane and killed themselves over hunger. War broke out in many areas of Mongolash. People are trying to survive and to survive they must kill. In Pengaria, Kath a ruthless warlord leader of the infamous Kinceta Warriors is attacking small towns and taking everything in site, to live. In Arcania, the legendary assassins guild asserts a bid for power, toppling sultans and kings.

The creator of this deadly darkness that has consumed so many lives is known as Dakron, the death lord. Dakron wields the fabled Lance of Kilronctie. The lance is laced with necropotic energy. Offering those who wield it a tantalizing promise of everlasting life and unbridled power. Dakron has a brother named Vintkye Darthos. Vintkye is a priest of Lukin. He is trying to foil his brother's plans to conquer the world.

Ten years earlier on a stormy and mysterious day Vintkye Darthos was slowly walking through the woods pondering the sacred secrets of the shakkurle, the power within. Vintkye is a man of small stature cloaked from head to toe and is slouched from years and years of working with magic and the dragons. He is searching for the promised one, the fated person who is supposed to have the shakkurle, the one who's destiny is to save the world, the future world. Vintkye knew the future world was in danger, but by what or whom he did not know.

That same day a little halfling boy named Oltec was testing the fates. He was only eight years old and already up to no good. He was a very short halfling, standing at only one and a half feet tall. He was one of the shortest boys in his school. Despite his short stature he was very good at doing many tumbling maneuvers. He used these great skills to do many things, such as stealing.

"Hey, do you want to see something cool?" Oltec asked. Oltec had been laying in the shade of the vekii tree for most of the day.

"What, what do you want!" Drake said angrily. Drake had climbed the tree earlier and now was laying in a little nook in the tree.

"Shhh, quiet I've been wanting to show you something," Oltec said quietly trying not to disturb the other people who were walking around the village square.

He moved his head slowly toward Oltec as if he was really tired, and said,"Yes?"

"Do you remember how you always wanted to go to the carnival but you never had enough money?" Oltec asked.

"Ya," Drake said.

"Well this year we will get to go," Oltec said.

"How?" Drake asked.

"Here I'll show ya," Oltec said with confidence.

It was the day when the carnival was. There were many people in line to get into the annual Flight of the Dragon Carnival. Oltec knew this was the perfect opportunity to get what he wanted and what he wanted was money. He saw the perfect opportunity. There was a person yelling at another person, their wallets were his. He snook up behind one of men looked around for anyone watching and then faster than anyone could see he had it.

"Wow!" Drake said loudly. He then quickly calmed down and looked around to see if anyone had heard.

Oltec walked back like a normal person, not a care in the world. Oltec felt so good with what he had done, even though the had done something so bad.

"I knew you would get it," Drake said in awe.

"Yip, that is my new talent. It is a very prosperous career, don't you think?" Oltec said happily.

"Hey, I think you should do that some more," Drake said greedily.

"Sounds like a good idea," Oltec said.

They spent the rest of the day stealing many various items. At the end of their stealing spree they went to the local trading shop and traded all the goods in for real money. After that they finally went to the carnival for the first time. They thought it was stupendous. There were many rides like the Twist it was Oltec and Drake's favorite ride. For the Twist you would get put into this chair hanging on a rope. Then a big man would twist you around and around and let go. You were in for the twist of your life time.

"Oltec...," Niveria said. Niveria was Oltec's mother. She was a very protective mother. She didn't want him to be exposed to any bad influences. But what Niveria didn't know was that he had picked up the art of stealing.

"W...what," Oltec said tiredly. Oltec had so much fun last night he really didn't get that much sleep. He had spent all the money he had stolen because he didn't want his mother to know about his little hobby. Oltec was also scared that his mother might find out that he had stolen all those things. He was starting to regret all the things he had done.

"Good morning, Oltec. Come on, sleepy head! Get up!" Niveria said. She then walked over to the drapes in his room and beautiful light shone in illuminating everything in site, including Oltec.

"Come on Mom, shut that, I'm trying to sleep," Oltec said as he pulled the covers over his eyes.

"Such a beautiful day today. Not a cloud in the sky," Niveria said. She stood at the window for a while looking at the sky and the trees and how beautiful they all were. "So are you going to get up anytime in my life time?" Niveria asked.

"I don't want to get up today!" Oltec said

"I made breakfast for you and everything. I'll give you five minutes to get out of bed and get downstairs, or I won't give you any of my famous pinotics!" Niveria said.

Oltec got out of bed still tired and stumbled over to his dresser. He then proceeded to get dressed. Because it was to bright, he walked over to the drapes and closed them. He walked down the stairs and the aroma of fresh pinotics filled the room. "That sure does smell good, Mom," He walked over and sat down in one of the chairs that was around the table. He then proceeded to eat.

This was the day when the elders of Vectipii got together and discussed the problems of the village. There had been many strict rulings in the past on little matters. And today many people came and complained of a thief.

"May this council of Vectipii come to order," the chief elder said with a booming voice.

"Would the first case step forward," one of the elders said calmly.

"Hello, I am the merchant Liku I run a shop down the street. Yesterday something bad happened. All of my earnings for yesterday had been stolen, along with some of my more expensive jewelry," Liku said madly.

"We have heard your case and we now ask for anything you can present us that proves this as in witnesses," the chief elder said.

At that moment about ten people walked into the room and said that that had happened to them also. One man said he was standing in line to get into the carnival. He remembered putting his wallet in his pocket before, but when he got up to the counter where you pay he couldn't find his wallet anywhere. Another woman had said that she was walking past the old tree and she dropped her purse and some stuff fell out so she bent over to pick up some of the stuff that fell and when she turned around her purse was gone. And finally the person who could identify this person stepped forward.

"I am the owner of the trade shop in this village. Something weird happened last night. Two kids came into my office and brought many miscellaneous items like jewelry and asked for pings in return. I thought this was a little bit fishy, but I decided that I could make a few pings off of the stuff they were giving me so I decided to do it. I recognized them and I knew they would never steal such things but I guess I was possibly wrong. These two boys who came into my store are called Oltec Whitestar and Drake Polycraz," the store owner said.

"Find the boy, we want to hear his side on this matter," the chief elder said.

"Yes, we need the boy's side of the story to reach a correct decision," another elder said.

Oltec was in school taking a craft class. He is very good at making many various things out of leather. Once he made a whole leather coat. Now he is making a leather sheath for his new knife that his mother gave him.

"That is beginning to look really good, Oltec," the teacher said.

"Thank you, Ms. Wraith," Oltec said happily. Oltec was just beginning to start the laces on the sheath, he was almost done. After he was done lacing he was going to start carving many designs into the smooth outer covering of the leather. He was going to use his new knife to do this.

"Wow, that thing is going to be cool," Drake said with excitement.

Everyone was working on their projects when there was a knock on the door.

"Come in," Ms. Wraith said.

And what walked in astounded everyone; it was a council guard. He was wearing dark clothes with the shield of the council on his chest.

"The council of the elders has ordered the capture of a Oltec Whitestar. He is ordered to come with me to a hearing of the elders. Time is of the essence," the council guard said with a great booming voice.

Oltec heard this from the corner of the room and he got scared. He knew this was about the things that had been stolen. He got up and ran over to the cabinets that were on the floor in another corner of the room. He jumped in and closed the door behind him. By then he was really scared.

"Oltec would you please come here," Ms. Wraith said quietly. "Does anyone know where Oltec is?" Ms. Wraith said again but a little bit louder.

Oltec had decided that he might as well come out and face the consequences. It was better to turn himself in now, so he doesn't get in any more trouble.

"Here I am," Oltec said.

"Come with me," the council guard said.

Ten minutes later they had arrived at the Vectipii council room. It was a lot larger than Oltec had thought. He knew he was in deep trouble now. The halls of the council were lined with marble. The stone shone in the bright light of the sun. They entered the council room and sitting there were the elders.

"Bring him forward," the chief elder said. The chief elder then stated, "You, Oltec Whitestar, have been accused of stealing various items from many people. How do you plea?"

"Not-Guilty," Oltec said in a very cocky way.

"Then what may I ask were you doing last night," another elder said.

"Would you like to hear my story?" Oltec asked.

"Please enlighten us," the chief elder said.

"Well, I was out walking around last night by myself looking for something to do. When I saw the carnival, I really wanted to go to it. I didn't have enough money so I went around asking people for money. No one gave me any money, so I started to look on the ground for stuff people had dropped. I found some jewelry on the ground so I picked it up and walked over to the trade shop and traded it in for money. Then for the rest of the night I was at the carnival. I know I should have turned in that piece of jewelry, but I really wanted the money so I could get into the carnival," Oltec said.

"Thank you, now bring in the shopkeeper to identify the subject," the chief elder said. They had brought in five other kids also, they were all about Oltec's height and were also halflings. Oltec saw them bringing in the shopkeeper it was the same guy that he had sold the items to the other night. "Now shopkeeper, is the culprit in this room?"

"Yes," the shopkeeper said loudly.

"Then please point him or her out," the chief elder said.

Time seemed to go in slow motion from that point on. Oltec knew that he would recognize him. The tall man paced in front of the boys. The shopkeeper knew all along who it was, but the elders were trying to find out if he was just guessing.

"Him, that is him, that is Oltec!" the shopkeeper said.

"You have identified the culprit successfully," the chief elder said.

Those words pierced Oltec like a hot knife through butter. He knew he would probably go to jail for a long time for his crimes. Stealing was a felony punishable by the removal of hands or a long jail stay. Oltec hoped he would get the jail time. He knew he would probably get it because he was a child.

"We will recess for five minutes to decide on this matter, please contain the suspect until then," the chief elder said with a great booming voice. The elders left one by one walking as if they were gods. They walked with great strides. As the last one left he closed the door behind him with a great slam. The elders came back after a five minute recess. It looked like they had reached a decision.

"We the elders of Vectipii have found Oltec Whitestar guilty of stealing stuff, he will spend one full year in prison to think about his crimes," the chief elder said loudly. That was it Oltec thought. It was the end of all his childhood.

Meanwhile Vintkye Darthos was traveling through the woods just north of Vectipii. "I sense a great power coming from the south, over there," Vintkye said to himself. After walking a little more he came to a road, the road led to a town. The town was in the same direction that he had felt the great power. He decided to follow his hunch so, he walked to the town.

The town was a small one. He thought it only had a population of about one-hundred. All the houses were made of straw and mud. That was a bit old fashioned but it was normal. He noticed a massive carnival in the field to the east. It must be a special day to have such a big carnival in the village. He saw that there was a council room in the village so it must have been a major city in the area. He then started to search for the person with the shakkurle. He was walking around for a while and found out about some boy that got sent to prison for a year for stealing some things. He started to walk past the prison when he got some serious vibes. He then knew that the person with the shakkurle was in the prison. He walked up to the gates and it said closed no admittance, so he decided to sneak in. He didn't want to make bad friends in the first day he was here so he decided to go undetected. He was going invisible. He reached into his cloak and took out a scroll. He then started to read the words, "Vekalloino penioki lickuio vential peck!" and with a quiet hiss he had disappeared.

It was a dark and lonely place Oltec was scared. He was in a cell about ten by ten feet. His cell was roomy but dark and gloomy. When he had first arrived the stench had overwhelmed him it smelled like rotten milk mixed with feces and just a touch of rotten eggs. The smell took about thirty minutes to get used to. There was a bed that smelt like urine. It must have never been cleaned. When he opened the sheets on the bed a huge rat had scurried out and left behind were some of his feces Oltec jumped and stepped on it. There was also a hole in the ground with a cover over it. As he lifted the cover up stench filled the room. There were no windows. The only thing you could look through were the barren bars in the front of his cell.

"Are you going to eat that, sonny," an old man said from a hole in the wall in the cell next to him.

"Why, do you want it?" Oltec said.

The man answered, "Yes, those fat little things are sure good eatin'. I like there little legs the best, they go down..."

"Please sir, be quiet, you are starting to gross me out and I don't want to have to barf and open that hole up again," Oltec said.

"Just stick it through this hole in the wall. I will eat it over in the corner, so you don't see me," the man said happily.

"O.K. Here you go," Oltec shoved the rat through the hole quickly he didn't want to spend that much time touching that dirty thing.

"Thank you very much," the old man said.

"So, what are you in here for?" Oltec asked. He wanted to get his mind off of the stench from the hole that still filled the room. So, he decided to start a conversation.

"I was accused of robbing the village bank, but to this day I say I am innocent," the old man said with sadness. "What are you in this rat infested, delicious rats I may add, hole for?"

"Well, I was out one night and I had to get some money so I went out and stole many things to pay my fee to get into the carnival," Oltec said.

"So we are both in here for stealing things, what a coincidence don't you think?" the man asked.

"Ya, I suppose, so what do you do in here for fun, besides plugging your nose from the stench of rotting flesh?" Oltec said jokingly.

"Well, it is pretty fun counting the rats that you see, or you can even count the cockroaches that scurry through the cell," the old man said happily.

"I forgot to ask you your name, what is it?" Oltec asked.

"My name is Darock, and what did you say your name was?" Darock asked.

"My name is Oltec Whitestar," Oltec said proudly.

"Whitestar, that rings a bell, yeah that's it, I fought with your father in the great war of 2010. He was a great man. He stood for everything good, a shame he had to die in a prison camp," Darock said with a sad tone in his already cracked voice from years in jail.

"I'd rather not speak about my father, I miss him too much," Oltec said.

Oltec and Darock conversed for the rest of the day. They talked about many things from their family to their lives. The guard called it a night with the "lights out" call. When the lights were out, you were not supposed to talk otherwise you would be in deep trouble. It was a very lonely and smelly night for Oltec he hoped that the next day would be a better one.

The next day, Oltec woke up later then the other prisoners. He had gotten used to the stench through the night. He didn't even notice it. Oltec paced his cell thinking of things to do with his year of time. He found a rock so he played catch with it most of the day. Around lunch time he stopped doing that and lied down for some sleep since he had nothing else to do. He was just about to fall asleep when he heard this ear piercing hiss. He didn't know what the sound was. He got up and started to look around. And what appeared before him was mystical. A black hole opened in front of him. He stared at it in disbelief as a figure, a small cloaked figure, stepped out.

"You, you're the one with the shakkurle," Vintkye said with a great booming voice.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Oltec asked.

"I am Vintkye Darthos. I am a high priest of Lukin. I am here to tell you about dangers that are to be in the future. The world will be engulfed by darkness and many will die. Since I have found you I have seen many more happenings in the future. I have seen the total destruction of mankind. There is only one person that can stop this madness and that is you...," he was abruptly stopped.

"How could I save the future world from total annihilation of all life," Oltec asked.

"I was getting to that. You are the only one with the shakkurle. The shakkurle is the power within a person and you seem to have a lot of it stored up in you. You are the only one who has the power to focus that energy to save the future world," Vintkye said.

"When will this total destruction happen?" Oltec asked.

"I don't know but it will be within a period of fifteen years. When it does happen I will be back and by that time you should have grown very powerful. You should have learned to harness your power through an art named chi. There is a great teacher of this art. You must find him, his name is Kintie Baco, remember that name well for when you get out of here you must learn. In the mean time try to focus your energy by thinking hard on one spot, like the tip of your finger. In time you should get it. That is all I have to say, I will be back in approximately ten years," Vintkye said.

With a bright flash he was gone and he never saw him again. Oltec thought about what he had said for a while and his instincts said that he was telling the truth. Oltec sat in jail and thought about what he did and what he has to do. He also tried to practice the power of the shakkurle. He tried every day to focus his energy. He progressed every day slowly but surely. Eventually he did focus his energy on the tip of his index finger. He could shoot little bursts of energy out of his finger.

Ten years have passed and Oltec has left his mother alone and gone to Kintie Baco to train He learned to focus his powers even better. He has gone through school in a town by Kintie and has had good grades. He is eighteen now and has learned a lot and he has also matured a lot. Oltec likes many new things like girls. Ten years ago he hated girls he thought they were to wimpy. Today, he still thinks they are wimpy. He hopes he can find a mate that is strong willed and also strong physically. Oltec has grown to a towering two feet. As a halfling he is still one of the shortest boys around. In about a week he will be graduating from his school.

The next day started like a normal day. He got up and went to school. In school he mostly stayed around and talked. The last week of school wasn't that hectic. He got home and started his training. He has gotten very skilled in his power. He has just learned how to levitate objects. His mentor was getting old and has just about taught him everything he needed to know. A week later it happened. His mentor for all these years had died. It happened like this. He had been going up to bed when he heard this loud yell. Oltec heard Kintie say you will be punished for your crimes soon. And then Oltec heard a different voice.

"No, old man, your time is up and no one else knows of the ancient art chi. You will never defeat me in battle I have grown far more powerful since our last encounter. Now I can incinerate your body with the flick of my finger," the mysterious man said.

"Then go ahead you scum, I don't care if you kill me Dakron, without your Lance of Kilronctie you would be nothing!" Kintie had said.

"Shut up, old man, I shall and will kill you. You have no future," Dakron said with anger.

And at that moment I had reached the top of the stairs and I saw it. He had brought up his staff and incinerated Kintie. All that was left were ashes. I ran to him or what was left of him. I wished that I had done more things with him. I also wished I hadn't said some of the things I had said. I grabbed a pot and scooped up the ashes. I wanted to spread them in his favorite stream, where he grew up as a kid.

The next day Oltec traveled many miles to the river Kintie had told him about so much. He had had finally reached the river. He knelt down and slowly poured the ashes into the river. Oltec had wept a little, but he felt that he should hold in his feelings so no one would see him cry. Oltec started on his journey back to his home. He then remembered about Vintkye Darthos and then decided to go tell him about Kintie.

As he was walking back to his village to get provisions for the long journey he ran into a man of about his same stature wearing a black cloak. The man was caring a staff, probably to help him along, Oltec thought.

"I'm sorry sir; I didn't see you there," Oltec said.

"O' that's all right. Hey, do I know you?" the man asked in a peculiar matter. "You're little Oltec, boy you sure have grown up in the last ten years," the man said.

"Now I recognize you your Vintkye Darthos, I was just going to see you," Oltec said.

"Why," Vintkye asked.

"I'm sorry but I am the bearer of bad tidings," Oltec said.

"What is wrong?" Vintkye said.

"Kintie Baco is dead, I am just returning from his favorite river, he talked about it all of the time," Oltec said sadly.

"I am here to tell you about some bad news. The world is going to be covered in complete darkness in no time flat. We need to get going. Time is of the essence," Vintkye said.

They walked back to the village and Oltec picked up some provisions for the journey. They then went over to the stables and picked up some new horses, since both of theirs were old and they were going on a long journey. They also went over to the blacksmith to get some weapons for their protection.

Meanwhile on the Dragon Isle Dakron was plotting his scheme for world domination. The Dragon Isle was a far off island in the orchid sea. It was a small island inhabited by dragons and Dakron. Dakron knew with the death of Kintie Baco he would have no problem in taking over the world. But he knew that his good brother was out there right now trying to foil his plans. Dakron had built a machine that could cover up half the world and block out the sun. It shoots an anti particle field into the lower atmosphere of the earth which would in turn cover the sun from all of the world except for a small ring around the Dragon Isle. This in turn would cause famine and chaos. Dakron decided to start the machine at midnight. He thought that in time he could rule the world. Using the machine as leeway he could convince many sultans and kings to give up their land and people to him. He also wants to control the Assassins Guild and the mighty Kinceta Warriors to further his power.

Oltec and Vintkye were traveling at a normal rate towards Vintkye's homeland. Every once and a while they would stop and rest.

"I just got a vision, I now know what is going to happen and who is going to do it," Vintkye said.

"Well spit it out. What is going to happen?" Oltec asked.

"Half of the world will be covered in darkness, and the person who will generate this darkness is my brother Dakron. I knew he was bad but I never knew he was capable of that kind of destruction. Dakron is residing on the Dragon Isle. We must travel to that island and foil his evil plans to conquer the world. The island is to the west of where we are right now we must hurry and get there at once. He will start the darkness at midnight tonight and we must stop him before he kills everyone," Vintkye said sadly.

"I had no idea, we must get going if we are to reach the isle before sundown. It is vital to the world that we get there in time," Oltec said.

"Now you are starting to think right," Vintkye said happily.

Vintkye and Oltec straddled their horses and started off in the long journey to the Dragon Isle. The Dragon Isle wasn't very far away and the two had reached the sea it was in by sundown. There was always a local oarsman to take anyone that needed to go to the island or any other island for that matter. They traded their horses for a trip to the Dragon Isle. The oarsman was a big and scraggly man who looked very suspicious. After a while the oarsman started to asked a lot of questions like why and what are you here for. Oltec and Vintkye decided that they didn't want to tell him anything that was of any importance. It was an hour later and pitch black out. In the distance they could see it, Dragon Isle. Vintkye thought to himself Dakron won't know what hit him. At the same time Dakron had a mental link up with the oarsman on the boat. Dakron was telling the oarsman that he should start slowing down. The oarsman answered back in his mind that he will. Dakron was planning out what he could do to stop the imposing threat to his reign. He then proceeded to tell the oarsman that he should steer towards the rocks that lined the coast of the Dragon Isle. The oarsman agreed, so he did. Dakron also told him to tip the boat and hopefully knock them out on the rocks in the water. The oarsman then proceeded to start rocking the boat, he was strapped in so it didn't matter how hard he rocked the boat he would never fall out.

"Hey, what are you doing, stop we are going to..." Vintkye started to say when they both got tipped and fell into the water. The oarsman then turned around and left them there slowly sinking. They were both unconscious because, just as planed, they had hit their heads on the jagged rocks on the shoreline.

The next day Oltec woke up and his head was aching severely. He looked around, he was on a island, he thought. He then got up and yelled for Vintkye. "Vintkye, Vintkye," he yelled loudly. He started walking along the shore in hopes he would find Vintkye. Oltec couldn't remember what happened last night in the boat, but he does remember the oarsman rocking the boat and him falling out. The rest of the night is a blur in his mind. "O my god," Oltec said out loud as he turned to see total darkness to the west and east. He never saw this until then because he had been looking into the woods for Vintkye. Now that he had noticed it he couldn't take his eyes off of the dark. The only thing that wasn't dark was a ring around where the island was. He had to find Vintkye so he decide what to do about this. He kept on walking along the shore of the island when he saw a disheveled thing slowly crawling up the shore. Oltec kept on watching this thing, then it collapsed. Oltec ran to the creature, turned it over and low and behold it was Vintkye. "What happened, why is your head bleeding," Oltec asked.

"I...I was falling, I hit a rock hard and I ended up here," Vintkye said slowly.

"I must have hit a rock then too, but just not as hard," Oltec said. "Your head, it's bleeding I must bandage it," he said hastily.

"L...Listen, the time for me to go has come. Y...you must save the world, it is time. You must harness the power you have learned and focus all of it on Darthos, he must be destroyed..." Vintkye said with his last words.

"That is it; Darthos will pay for his crimes," Oltec said loud and angrily.

"I can feel it, my brother is dead. Finally, he won't be pestering me anymore. Now I can get my plans started. All humanity will be dead by 2050 and I will be the supreme ruler of all. I will start a super race, that I will lead to rule the universe," Dakron said loudly. His voice was filled with power and greed a lethal combination. "What is this, who is that boy. That boy must be here to destroy me. I think he has underestimated the power that I have. I think I will send some of my animals out to kill him. He shall die soon," Dakron said with an angry voice.

Oltec knew that he was the last hope for the future of humanity. Everything rests on his shoulders and that is a big burden to carry. He could see where the particle field was emanating from, it came from a steep mountain where a huge castle sat. The castle had dragons circling it. Those dragons were probably for Dakron's protection from any intruders. Oltec then began his long journey through the thick brush that surrounded the mountain. Oltec proceeded to use his powers to move and destroy many obstacles that were in his way. He encountered many animals that supposedly were sent to kill or slow him down. With his powers he defeated these animals easily with just a flick of his finger.

"Well it seems that I have underestimated this little boy. He isn't as puny as I first thought. This may be some problem. This could hurt my master plan, I must send some of my dragons. They will be able to incinerate with just a blow of fire. He will be dead in no time flat," Darthos said happily.

The animals stopped coming, but he knew that there had to be more then just those animals. Then he saw them, a fleet of dragons flying straight to him. Oltec then hid hoping the dragons didn't see him. He hid in some small bushes when he heard a loud whooshing noise. The noise was what he had feared the dragons had found him. He scurried out of the bushes firing burst by burst of fireballs, out of the palms of his hands. The dragons screeched in pain, he was more powerful than he had thought. After a little bit the dragons were dead. He had defeated them.

"No, not my lovely dragons. Now little boy you must die. When you reach my castle I'll be waiting for you. You will die upon arrival little boy, you and your little powers too ha, ha, ha, ha," Dakron said.

Oltec had reached the mountain and had already started crawling up it. He was going very fast despite his small stature. And then he remembered he could levitate and could go twice as fast. He then started to levitate. He arrived at the castle a few seconds later. The castle was bigger than he thought. He went up to the doors and opened them with a wave of his hand. He entered and a tall man was standing there.

"I have been waiting for you little boy," Dakron said.

"You will parish today. I will kill you. Humanity must live on," Oltec said.

"O will you,'Dakron said.

With a flick of his finger a huge fireball shot straight a Oltec. Oltec dodged it and fired back. Dakron dodged his shot too. For at least an hour the fought like this back and forth, going nowhere. It seemed that they were equally matched in power and speed.

"You will perish boy, die," Dakron said.

"You will go before I do, it is my destiny to kill you and kill you I shall," Oltec said.

Oltec saw a cubby hole over in the corner of the room. The hole looked like it led into another room. Oltec then ran for the hole dived and rolled into another room. This room wasn't that big. It had two doors and the hole he had come out of. Oltec could hear Dakron yelling and cussing at him through the hole. He then heard Dakron's footsteps slowly dampen. Oltec knew that Dakron would come in from one of the doors and kill him. Dakron was more powerful then Oltec had thought, in the first place. Oltec knew that he had to slowly wear him down before he could kill him. He had not seen the lance that Vintkye had told him about, so he thought that he won't take it out until almost the end. The lance was about six feet tall but Oltec had not seen it on Dakron. It must be in another part of the castle he thought. Oltec decided to go and try to find it, so he went out the door to his left. After he got out of the room he entered a hallway that turned left and right. The hallway was dimly lit by torches every ten feet. The hallway slowly sloped downward to the right. Oltec started down the right hallway. He traveled about forty feet and found two staircases one going up one going down. He took out one of his coins and flipped it, heads he goes up, tails he goes down. The coin flipped in the air and landed on his hand; it was tails. Oltec slowly started down the staircase. At the bottom of the stairs there was a grate. That was where the water from all of the upper levels drained to. There was a hallway that curved to the left, so Oltec followed it. He knew that Dakron knew he was there so he expected that there would be some kind of monster or monsters trying to stop him. He knew that Dakron was probably a smart man so he would probably send some monsters to weaken or kill him. The hallway was long and dimly lit. Halfway there was a staircase leading down so he decided to go down. The stairs descended deep into the castle every once and a while there would be a hallway branching off to the left and right. Oltec kept on descending the stairs when finally he came to the end. A hallway went to the left into darkness. In the distance he could see something flashing. Being a halfling, he had partial infravison so he could make out shapes and other things. By the flashing light he could see a big figure that stood about six feet tall and kind of bulky. He slowly walked closer to the mysterious thing. As he was going on he noticed that he was in some kind of jail. He then saw what it was, it was an ogre. The ogre was sleeping on a chair, the things that were flashing were keys. Oltec slowly walked up to the ogre and jumped onto his head and gagged him with some cloth from his shirt. He then tied his arms up to the chair behind him. The ogre shook violently in the chair. After he had bound and gagged the ogre he heard some commotion in one of the cells next to him.

"Hey you," a voice called out. It seemed to be coming out of one of the cells to Oltec's left.

"Who's there," Oltec asked.

"Grab the keys that are hanging from his pocket and come over here I want to get out of this god forsaken place," the voice said from a cell in the corner.

"I don't know who you are. Can I trust you?" Oltec asked.

"Well you really can't trust anyone," exclaimed the girl.

"Why are you in this cell?" Oltec asked.

"Well, Dakron the ruler of this hell hole, was pillaging my village. I attacked him. I lost. Because I had attacked him he killed my family and put me down here forever. Now please get me out of this place and I will repay you in any way that I can," the voice said.

"Well, O.K.," Oltec said

Oltec walked over to the dead ogre and took the keys away from him. He then walked over to the cell where the voice was coming from. He looked inside of the cell and there was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in his life. She stood at about four feet tall she had reddish-purple hair and green eyes. She was the most beautiful elf he had seen in his lifetime.

"So, are you going to give me the keys or not?" she asked.

"Oh, here you go," Oltec said slowly.

"So what is your name, mine is Violet," Violet said.

"My name is Oltec, I am here to destroy Dakron, but he has been a little of a problem," Oltec said.

"Well I would guess it would be a problem, he is a pretty tough guy, you are going to need some help," Violet said.

Violet and Oltec agreed that they would help each other. Violet came out of her cell and started walking to the body of the ogre. She got to it and picked up some of the weapons that the ogre had. After she was done the walked to some stairs that were right by the cell. Violet had mentioned that Dakron always went up those stairs when he was done belittling her. They slowly walked up the stairs and came to a hallway. It spanned left and right. They decided to go left. They started to go left when they saw a great shimmering at the end of the hall. They walked towards the light and came to a treasure room. It was the most treasure that Oltec had ever saw in his lifetime. There was a podium in the middle of the room with some strange writing on it. Oltec ran up the the podium and in the middle there was a ring Oltec reached for it.

"No Oltec, don't," Violet yelled. But it was too late Oltec had already put on the ring. The writing on the podium said, warning cursed. "Oltec that ring is cursed."

"It can't hurt me. I have the power of the shakkurle, see," Oltec said with a certain cockiness. But, Oltec couldn't get it off it was stuck. He tried to use his powers to get it off, but he couldn't it was stuck for good.

It must have been a dispel or block ring. Dakron must have known this, that is why he put the warning on it. Dakron probably didn't want any of his followers to put it on and totally lose all of their powers. Well Oltec had lost his infinite powers and now he was totally vulnerable to the power of Dakron. "All is lost, we are doomed." Oltec knew that with out his powers he would die if he faced Dakron, but he also knew that he was the last hope in the world. He had to do it.

They went on to face Dakron. Dakron was awaiting their arrival in his quarters. He was sitting in the throne that faced a window that showed the mass darkness. Dakron sensed that the two were right outside the door. He then turned to face the two people as they entered the room.

"Enter and die," Dakron said in a loud booming voice. The door opened.

"This will be your last day to live Dakron, I will extinguish your live force," Oltec said.

"Puny man you will never defeat me," with that said Dakron rose from his chair and fired a huge fireball at the two. The two jumped away just in time. They could feel the heat of the fireball on their feet.

"You seem more powerful then our last encounter, but I will defeat you," Oltec said. The generator for the darkness was in the same room pointing out to the world. Oltec knew that if he knocked out the generator he would have done what he had came here to do. Dakron shot a couple more fire balls at Oltec, he easily dodged them. Oltec noticed a window over in the corner of the room. Oltec darted for the window. Outside of the window was a tree. If they may be in trouble they could possibly jump out of the window to the tree. Oltec ran back to Violet and told her his plan. He said that when he raised his hand and yelled peki, he would be ready to leave this place.

"You will never leave this place alive," Dakron said with a booming voice that made Oltec's bones tremble.

Oltec was waiting for the right moment to raise his had and say peki. He only wanted to leave if they were in dire need to. A huge fireball came flying at Oltec. He ducked and it seared the hairs on his head. Now was the time he thought. He raised his hand and said,"PEKI!!". Violet heard the words and started to run to the window. She jumped out and landed on the tree, Oltec was right behind her. On his way out he yelled,"I'll be back".

Oltec and Violet landed in the tree feet first. It took a little bit of time to get to the bottom, but they did make it after a little while. At the bottom of the tree they could see the castle. It was kind of far away because the part of the castle that they were in was a big attachment onto the castle that was high in the air. They both looked up in awe, they had dropped very far. They started to walk away from the castle, when they saw a big camp with a lot of ogres in it. They went up to the camp, but stayed in the cover of the trees to stay hidden. They looked on into the camp. What they saw amazed them, Dakron appeared out of nowhere. He started to talk to the ogres. The two figured that he was telling them that we were out in the woods somewhere. He then raised his head and looked straight at them. He must have sensed them some how. The ogres started to walk toward the two. Since they were in the trees, they could do nothing. They started to climb down the tree and the ogres were there to meet them. Violet and Oltec tried to fight back, but the ogres were too strong for them. They got separated. Oltec could no longer see Violet any more. Oltec finally got free from the ogres grasp. He ran to find her. He saw her.

"No, No!" Oltec cried as they killed her. He knew that he should have told her before that he loved her and now he can't. She was the one he cherished, he was heartbroken. He only knew her for a little while, but he grew to love her. He ran to her as fast as his little legs would carry him. He wanted vengeance for the one he loved.

"Stop you, put you weapon down," the giant ogre said, with his cutlass to Oltec's throat.

"Why...why, why did you have to kill her," Oltec said quietly and to himself.

"I say stop, you don't an I kill you," the ogre said madly.

"I will have my vengeance," Oltec jumped to his feet and attacked the ogre. Since he didn't have his powers anymore the ogre put up a fight.

"Foolish man, why you attack me, I bigger than you, I always win," the ogre proclaimed. And with that he grabbed Oltec by his head, knocked him out, and carried him away.

Oltec came to in a rat infested, slime housing dungeon. The air around him was rancid. He was in a hole about twenty feet down. There was a grate above him. He yelled, "Where am I?"

"Shut up and be quiet you," the guard said.

"Why am I here? I demand to know," Oltec said.

"You goin' to be our nex' meal," the guard said followed with a slight laugh.

"I need light, give me light," Oltec said angrily.

"You no get light, you die," the ogre said.

Oltec's head hurt really bad. He figured he was hit really bad. All of a sudden a bright light flashed in front of him and Vintkye flashed in front of him.

"What are you doing here, I thought you were dead," Oltec said quietly trying not to wake the guard.

"I am here because I must tell you how to get your powers back," Vintkye said.

"I can't get my powers back because this stupid ring just won't come off," Oltec said angrily.

"Kintie must have not got that far in your training. After a while you would have learned to how to leave your current position. And you would have also learned how to make certain things become dispelled. I guess if you would have known this you would have already left here," Vintkye said.

"But, I don't have any powers. How am I going to dispel a ring that has blocked my magic?" Oltec asked.

"Your powers are infinite, nothing can block them!" Vintkye replied.

"Well then teach me how!" Oltec yelled.

"I will have to enter your mind. It is risky will you do it?"Vintkye asked.

"Yes, anything to get my powers back!" Oltec said.

"O.K., you must fall asleep, so we can meet in your mind," Vintkye said.

Vintkye entered Oltec's mind and began to teach what Kintie had taught him. Oltec started to sleep and met Vintkye in his mind.

"Well hello Oltec," Vintkye said.

"It sure is weird in here," Oltec said.

"We must get started before your mind crashes. I am now transferring my training into your brain," Vintkye said.

Oltec awoke about a thirty minutes later. Vintkye was standing in front of him.

"Are we done?" Oltec asked.

"Yes we are. If it wasn't for your shakkurle, both of our minds would have crashed and we would both be no more," Vintkye said.

"The thing I don't get is that if both of you have the power of chi, how come you both perished at the hands of Dakron?" Oltec asked.

"We don't have the shakkurle within us. You have the power to defeat Dakron. He also has the shakkurle in him. We are just puny to him," Vintkye said.

"Can I ever bring back Violet?" Oltec asked.

"Yes, but first you must get that ring off!" Vintkye said.

"O.K. I'll try," Oltec said. He then tried to focus all of his energy on the ring. He saw the ring disintegrate. The ring was not as powerful as he was. He was overjoyed. "It worked, I can't believe it," Oltec said. "Now how do I resurrect Violet?".

"Well first you have to call her from beyond. I came back by my own choice and that is the only way you can return. It was a lot easier for me to come back because I have my own powers. Since I don't have the shakkurle I couldn't bring back anyone but me. You do have the shakkurle and you have the power to break through the barrier and bring her back. You must focus all of your energy in your mind and you must call out to her. The only way she can return is if she hears you and wants to go back. If she does want to go back you must focus on the same line that you are both on. She must let herself go. If she doesn't the power won't fully get to her and she will not come back. So go ahead and try," Vintkye said.

"O.K. I'll try but I don't know if I will be that successful," Oltec said. Oltec got in the stance that would fully use his powers. He closed his eyes. He started to focus his powers. He called out to he in his mind Violet, Violet. No one answered, Violet, Violet.

"Yes?" Violet replied.

"Violet is that you, this is Oltec," Oltec said.

"Oltec, how are you speaking to me?" Violet said.

"That doesn't matter, we must hurry. Do you want to come back to life?" Oltec asked.

"Oh, yes, yes I do. But how can I get back," Violet asked.

"I can bring you back. When you feel a intense pulling feeling, don't fight, just let yourself go," Oltec said.

"O.K. I won't fight back," Violet said.

Oltec then focused all his energy on the same line that they were talking on. After a little bit, a black doorway opened up in front of Violet. And she felt a pulling feeling. She didn't fight she let herself go. A black rip appeared in the air in front of Oltec and out stepped Violet.

"Hi Oltec, I haven't seen you in a long time," Violet said happily.

"We have to get out of here and save the world. I have my powers back and now I am twice as strong as I was before. I will defeat Dakron," Oltec said.

Oltec burst through the grate that covered the hole that he was in. He flew up though the opening. The ogre that stood guard was amazed. Oltec basted him with one flick of his finger. Oltec could feel that he was a lot stronger than before. He knew that when he faced Dakron, he would be victorious. Violet and Vintkye followed behind Oltec as he blasted through everything in his way. They finally got to a part of the castle where they knew were they were. They started to head for Dakron's chambers. There were guards every once and a while, but Oltec didn't have any trouble blasting them away. They finally reached the door to Dakron's chambers. Oltec blasted open the door with one flick of his finger. Dakron was sitting in his throne looking out towards the darkness. Dakron turned towards them, amazed.

"Well Oltec I see the Vintkye has risen from his grave. I also see you have regained your powers and tripled them. Now you almost match my total power. There is one thing you haven't realized yet I still have my lance and no matter what you do you can never kill me. You will die and this time I won't be nice," Dakron said with a grin.

"I will fight you until my last breath and I will kill you," Oltec said.

Oltec shot a small fireball at Dakron just to test if Dakron was worn down a little. Dakron dodged the fireball easily. Oltec knew that brute force would not work. He had to think of a way to either get the spear away from him or kill him somehow. Dakron shot a huge blue fire ball at Oltec and Oltec dodged that easy. Oltec wanted to end this battle fast. He had to because every second is precious to human life. They kept on battling for a while. Vintkye and Violet secured the outside of the room so no one would disturb them. Oltec then got an idea. Vintkye had said that you can transport your self anywhere you envision. Oltec learned from Vintkye how to do this, but he didn't want to do this because you lose all of your belongings and clothes after you transport. If he could do this to Dakron he would lose his lance and every thing.

Oltec concentrated and yelled "Paco pico licu licu kimoe nica inca shuca poi!" Dakron looked at Oltec with disbelief. Dakron then disappeared and the lance and all of his belongings fell to the ground. Oltec yelled loudly, "Yippie." Vintkye and Violet ran into the room because of Oltec's yell.

"I can sense it Dakron Isn't anymore. I can't even feel his presence anywhere. What did you do?" Vintkye asked.

"Well I transported him," Oltec said.

"To where I can't sense him any more," Vintkye said.

"Well that is good that you can't. I thought of nothing. I didn't think of a place. I thought of nothing. So I transported him to nothingness. I didn't think it would work, but I guess since I have the shakkurle it did. Dakron must have underestimated me. I can't believe that something so simple killed such a powerful man," Oltec said.

"Now you must destroy the generator and bring life back into the world," Vintkye said.

Oltec didn't know how much the generator would blow up, so they had to get away some how. There was a carpet in the corner of the room. Oltec focused his energy on it and it began to rise. Oltec, Violet, and Vintkye jumped onto the carpet and started to rise. Oltec decided to leave the lance there, so it would sink to the bottom of the sea when he blows up a small part of the island where the castle was. They rose very high into the sky. Oltec, Violet, and Vintkye linked hands in order to get the most power out of themselves to blow up the island. Oltec focused all of his energy and all of the channeled energy on the castle. Will all of that energy a huge beam of light shone on the island and a huge orb like thing descended onto the castle. The orb tumbled in to the castle with great force. Then the biggest explosion that Oltec had ever seen in his life appeared. The whole island disintegrated before Oltec's eyes. The island was no more. The carpet that they were all on was hit by a big shockwave. The three almost fell off of the carpet. The darkness was no more. They could see all around. Oltec and the rest returned to Oltec's hometown. The place was in ruins. Oltec went to his house and Niveria was laying over in the corner of the room. She got up and ran over to Oltec and hugged him. Oltec and he talked a while he told he about his travels and she told him about all of the things they had to give up during the dark. Violet and Vintkye were helping the town's people with fixing up the place. And then Oltec saw over in the corner of the town walking in, Kintie Baco. Oltec ran to him. Kintie explained that he only died to encourage Oltec, to save the world. The next day Oltec went to Violet and they talked. They talked about the past and they talked about the future, their future....

The End
